Lunch Hour Professional Development Speaker Series

The Professional Development Series consists of three brown bag lunches that occur over one academic quarter and cover the same theme.  The goal is for administrators to meet their colleagues in various University units and learn more about the higher education topic being explored that quarter. Examples of  overarching topics include student affairs and development, finance, institutional affairs, and external constituencies.

The first brown bag lunch in each quarterly series features an NU senior level executive who discusses Northwestern’s overarching vision regarding that month’s theme. In the second brown bag, mid-level NU administrators discuss that vision’s implementation at the departmental or unit level. The third and final brown bag, called Programs in Action, features staff adding their perspective from the programmatic level.

A new topic will be explored each quarter in the Professional Development Series.

Special Topics in Higher Education

In addition to the Lunch Hour Professional Development Speaker Series, AHEAD@NU hosts evening events, focusing on major issues in higher education (especially those relevant to Northwestern).  For these functions, a senior administrator from outside the University speaks on a topic of interest to the group.  Such topics include accreditation, assessment of student outcomes, diversity in higher education, and the influence of the new Obama administration on higher education.
